Packaging design / fair trade concept
Dev Fair Trade Chocolate
A chocolate bar packaging concept that combines Indian visual intricacy with Swiss minimalism to communicate origin, craft, and fair trade values.
Project overview
Packaging that tells a story about origin and ethics.
Fair Trade is a social movement that supports better trading conditions through sustainable farming and healthier working conditions. The goal was to create a chocolate bar designed as though it came from a developing country that grows cocoa beans, while incorporating the style of a western country as the producer of the chocolate.
The packaging needed to educate the public about fair trade practices and communicate that the chocolate is handcrafted with unique, organic ingredients.
Translated an ethical product story into a packaging system.
Balanced intricate Indian-inspired imagery with Swiss minimal typography.
Used a controlled two-color system to unify multiple package designs.
Designed packaging that communicates craft, origin, and organic ingredients.
Design strategy
Combining two visual cultures without overcrowding the package.
Combining the elegant, complex, and intricate style of India with the simple, minimalist design of Switzerland was the central challenge. I focused the imagery on Indian patterns and artwork while maintaining a Swiss influence through typography and structure.
Typography and color
A controlled system for a detailed visual language.
The typography uses Helvetica and a reference to the Swiss national flower. Each package uses a two-color system, creating balance between the Indian-inspired artwork and the cleaner Swiss design influence.
Final packaging
A product line with shared rules and distinct flavors.
The final bars feel related through structure, type, and restrained color systems, while each package can still carry its own visual personality.
Sketches and process
From cultural references to a finished package system.
Showing process makes the project stronger for employers because it reveals how the concept moved from research and visual exploration into a refined product presentation.
